XB2 Version 2.0 upgrade- I got it!!

Went to Pro Sound here in San Diego to find out about the XB-2 version 2.0
ROM upgrade, and low and behold they had just gotten a kit in for their
display model. I talked them into parting with it-and its in!

It comes with two ROM ICs, an instruction sheet, and a complete new user's
manual - 190 pages vs the old 114 pages. Almost written in English!

Installation took 10 minutes. It involves loosening 5 screw on the bottom,
lifting off the wooden top, and replacing the two ICs which are readily
visible. Its a little tight to pry them out without hitting the capacitors
on the PC board, but with care, its no problem.

Presets you have created should be dumped to MIDI before the upgrade as
they are lost, but can be restored after installation.

There is no indication that the warranty is affected by user installation,
and the instructions appear directed to the end user.

Mike, the owner at Pro Sound, said I could post a price of $145. installed
for the upgrade. Give him a call at (619) 583-7851- tell him Internet sent
you! (Disclaimer-I've been a customer at Pro Sound for a long time, but
don't work there and have no connection with his business!) There is a
small dealer rebate for returning the old ROMS, which I suspect he might be
willing to share with you if you order from him by mail and install
yourself (ie a refund when you send him the old ROMs.)

The XB-2 now ships with v2.0 installed at $200. list higher than previously.

The list of features was posted yesterday by someone-I can repost it if needed.

The coolest thing - 4 banks of presets! Pressing the same preset button
cycles thru 4 different presets, one for each bank A-D. The factory presets
are cool! 32 of them!
More control of percussion, Lesle speed and attack, LOTS af additions.
Definitely worthwhile!
