hammond list maintenance

        Greetings,

        At last I have a mail alias in place for use in requesting
subscriptions or other administrivia regarding the hammond mailing list.
Following existing list conventions, the admin address for the Hammond list
is:

        hammond-request@zk3.dec.com

        At the moment mail directed to this list comes to me.

        I will post a formal announcement of the list to
rec.music.makers.synth, giving the list admin address (see below). When
someone joins the list I will manually send them welcome mail (see below).

        Anyone who wants to post an announcement of this list to a forum
(CompuServe, AOL, etc) may do so but please use judgement in limiting
announcements to forums where you think there is genuine interest in the
Hammond. This will help keep the list size managable (and keep my job
efficient and easy) and keep list traffic quality high. That said, I
certainly don't intend to exclude ANYONE from list membership. Just use
judgement in posting announcements.

        Also, please send mail to me at hammond-request@zk3.dec.com letting
me know where you posted the announcement. This will help me to keep track
of where we've made annoucements, just for general info.

===============================================================
        ANNOUNCEMENT TEXT
===============================================================

        This is to announce an informal internet mailing list for and by
people interested in Hammond organs (old and new) and related issues. The
purpose of the list is to provide a forum for sharing general questions and
answers, technical information, equipement reviews, etc, regarding the
Hammond organ, it's clones, accesories, etc.

        This is not a formal list server, but is just a mail alias which
distributes e-mail to addressees. Hence there are no digests, automated
subscription facilities, or any other automated ways to request any
information whatsoever.

        A Hammond FAQ is currently being compiled. When it's available
I'll send a copy to new members, to anyone else explicitly requesting it
via the below request address, and I'll also post it to
rec.music.makers.synth.

        Those interested in subscribing should send their internet address
and full name to:

        hammond-request@zk3.dec.com

================================================================
        WELCOME MAIL
================================================================

        Welcome to the Hammond organ interest list. This list is a very
informal mail distribution of people interested in the Hammond organ, it's
clones, assecories, and other closely related issues.

        This list is being used to share a variety information, including
equipment reviews and opinions, references to places for purchase and/or
repair of new or old gear, spare parts, all sorts of questions (and the
answers!), for-sale listings, and more.

        There is a Hammond FAQ currently being compiled which will be
distributed to the list when it's done (if not before).

        This list is not maintained by an automated list server (LISTSERV,
Major Domo, etc) but is just a mail alias for distributing mail to a list
of addresses, to which yours has now been added. I'd be delighted if
anyone would like to setup and maintain a list server to handle this list,
but right now I'm doing it by hand in my few spare minutes. Consequently,
there is no digest posting of mail to the list.

        Thanks for joining us!

        Mark Longo
