[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index] Joey D's new sound?
On recent releases from Joey DeFrancesco his sound has changed a
bit. The recent releases I have in mind are "Relentless" with Danny
Gatton and "All About My Girl", his latest solo (trio) project with
Houston Person. I haven't heard any of his stuff with John McLaughlin.
For one thing I believe he's using a vintage B3 on those records
now rather than the Hammond-Suzuki machine with some signal processing
*after* the Leslie mic'ing. I think the processing is chorus, reverb,
and a short delay. Also the keyclick is very prominent and I wonder if
he's bringing it out with EQ? Can another Joey fan comment/speculate
what exactly the processing is and how it's achieved? This sound is
incredible.
Also, I have heard that adding reverb/delay or other effects
*before* the Leslie is kind of futile because the Leslie effect is
detracted from by the upstream reverb while at the same time the Leslie
masks the reverb effect. Anyone care to comment?
