Jimmy McGriff

There's a short bit in the February '95 KEYBOARD mag on p. 14. Jimmy
uses the Hammond Suzuki XB-3 and generally praises it:

"Personally I like the XB-3. I still use my 1958 B-3, but I'll use the
XB-3 when I get the chance. It fills a room. It's the closest to the B-3 that
anyone has done. It has what an organ player is looking for.

"The Hammond Suzuki people have the right idea, there's just a few
things that they have to clean up on it. At the low end, you can play crystal
clear chords. But in the middle, like from middle C up a bit, it gets muddy.
Then when you get up to the top end, it's clear, but it's hard. That's what
rock players want.

McGriff coaxes an incredible dynamic range out of the XB-3, at times
backing it off to a mere whisper. "I can play the XB-3 so quiet and clear,
whereas with my B-3 I can't."
