Re: Please help me choose a Leslie...

I have managed to get the Leslie Kit out of the L-100 spinet I owned until
recently. I gave it to the guy who actually did the surgery of removing
the kit from the back of it for payment of his services. As it turnes out
I guess the spinets aren't worth much around here, and this one was quite
abused by a teen in a band (many years ago). I got it with a 147 Leslie -
the guy I got it from put it in the paper as "Free - please take" !!
So, of course, I obliged him! The finish is rough on it, and it had been
sitting in a garage for the better part of 20 years without any attention,
but nothing critical was missing or damaged. With a lot of TLC, and rags
and oil, it's back to workable/good condition mechanically. The sound is
nothing short of amazing. The original tubes are in it, etc...

I see Leslie's in the paper here in Syracuse NY occasionally. They're
usually attached to spinets. The most recent ad I saw was for a 122 the guy
wanted $150 for "cause a friend of his said the Leslie was worth more than
the organ". So I know they're out there. Just a matter of being in the right
place at the right time, I guess.

On a not-so-related note: Can anyone tell me the best plan of attack WRT
isolating the preamp in on this 147 from 60 cycle hum? I notice that the
wires (red and black) going into the kit/box are just plain old copper
wire. I am getting the hum from the monitor/CPU I use for my music work-
station, and it down't appear that it's going away by moving the wire
around. I thought I'd replace those red/black wires with shielded stuff
but I got a notion that we're not playing with the standard wiring
concepts here. Above I meant to say power amp in, not preamp in, BTW!

I am currently driving the 147 with a Korg X3 and a Vintage Keys+. Man
they sound so goood together!

It's 5am and this one needs coffee!!

Thanks for the help!
