Re: Leslie acquisition-760

Buy the 760 for $300. if it's COMPLETE, sounds good at higher volume, and
looks in good overall condition - the toulex cabinet and chrome / plastic
rings are not falling apart from road use or water damage. The Pedal preamp
may become a problem, as the electronics are old and get very noisy. The 760
can be successfully retro-fitted into a 122 or 147, but the woofer is wrong,
a crossover is required, and of course a tube preamp must be found. Use
windex on the cabinet and then Armorall it heavily and repeatedly. .

Worst case, use it, find a 147 or 122, sell the 760 and put the money toward
the other Leslie.

760 Tech Tip - the power supply contains a filter capacitor (big & silver)
which ALWAYS goes bad and causes hum. If you plan on using the Leslie, I
strongly suggest you replace and upgrade the 4 diodes in the power supply and
REPLACE the filter capacitor. This small maintenance act saves a lot of
trouble later on! Also, unplug all of the plug connectors among the
amplifiers and power supply (one-at-a-time) and spray them with Cramolin R-5
or another commercial contact spray / deoxidant. Do not use RADIO SHACK tech
spray!!

Good luck with the motor service.
