[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index] Leslie Tubes
Another Tube Tale... I had a studio gig in Knoxville this past weekend, and in preparation of going into a strange town on a weekend, I thought it was only wise that I have an extra set of Leslie tubes just in case. The booking came up suddenly, so I called the usual stores to find a set. Boy...was I suprised! First...all the 6550's were Chinese tubes, nobody had 12AU7's (though plenty of 12AX7's), and I got a few laughs when I asked about an OC3. If I had had a breakdown, even locally, I would have been up a creek! Well, after about an hour or so of being shuffled around from electronic parts suppliers and TV repair shops, I called Goff Professional and told them my situation. Dave took my order, FedEx'ed it to the studio the following day. When I arrived at the studio, there were some last minute chart changes, so I was led directly to my B. It sounded fine...like always. When everyone went out for their smoke break, I thought it was a fine time to pop the new tubes in. WOW! What the hell happened? This didn't sound like my B. It was better...better than better. The tone was mucho improved and the percussion seemed to take on a new life. The engineer noticed it too. He had to re-EQ my channel! (BTW he used two tube Neumann 67's off axis). I was throughly amazed at the difference. So, moral of story...I get a *new* organ and Goff Professional saved my ass. I had such a blast playing I forgot all about the shitty food I ate at the airport! Huge thanks to Dave and Al at Goff Professional for making me a new customer! Brian Nelson metro@cqi.com
