FYI, I found an ergonomics reference that had some pages on foot pedal design.
You design is very close to the optimal configuraion shown in the diagram.

When the foot is in that elevated "braking position (as in an automobile)"
the ankle can travel through a greater angle - 
thus guitarist's pedal's are sub-optimal for keyboard work.

I'm going to make my own pedal too!
