[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index] New Keyboard mag
The new issue of _Keyboard_ (September?) contains an article on B-3 clones, including the Hammond-Suzuki XB-2 (v2), Voce V3, Viscount V-9, Oberheim OB-3 and Peavey's organ module, plus a few oldies like the Korg CX-3. Interesting reading. They even used a PRO-3 as part of their testing. However, what I found most interesting in the issue was not that article, but rather a letter from a guy who has a Korg G4 Leslie simulator. One drawback of the G4 is that it does not have external (i.e. midi) control of fast/slow rotor speed selection. However, this guy gets around this by using a product from MIDI Solutions (800-561-6434, 604-794-3013 outside US and Canada) which can convert midi messages to open and close a relay on a standard 1/4" jack. It can be programmed via midi sysex messages to open and close on virtually any midi event. This turns out to be a great solution for XB-2/PRO-3 owners who want to use the Leslie tab on the XB-2! The tab, which transmits midi messages when pressed, can be used to toggle the PRO-3's rotor speed with this device! I called the folks at MIDI Solutions to inquire about the product. It is called the MIDI Solutions Relay, and is available directly from the company for US$99 or through a mail-order place in Indiana called Woodwind & Brasswind (800-348-5003) for $79. I just ordered one from W&B (it was the only one they had in stock). Hopefully it will live up to its description. I'll post a report after I get it and try it out. John Pittas
