Mark Longo wrote about the Feb. KEYBOARD article on Page & Plant: > Keyboardist Ed Shearmur's tech is >Chris Burn who says on page 20, "Al [Goff] is brilliant; we phone him up at >2:00 in the morning and say 'how do I do this?'". << The Brit's have a funny way of speaking. Chris really meant something like "OK", certainly not brilliant. Bob S., Bill Beer, Mike Smokowitcz, Jerry Welch and a few others are "brilliant" in this business. Bill, Dave and I are more in the line of "slightly bright", but we work our ass off the same as my brethren above do. When those emergency calls come in at 2:00 A.M, I sometimes just nod my head a few times, get the billing address, and say goodbye... In addition to Chris calling, I routinely get calls from Andy Topeka (Rolling Stones), Pete Moshay (Hall & Oates), the Allman Bros., plus an occasional call from my buddys with Keith Emerson, Will Alexander, and our own board member, Gene "steal any organ from an old lady" Stopp. A call from anybody at that time requires some time to collect your thoughts. They are always in deep trouble, need immediate help, are thousands of miles away, and have NO time to fix anything, as it's ten minutes until showtime. Before the days of cell phones, Jerry Welch will remember receiving letters at the factory written by my Dad on his old GIANT-TYPE typewriter. After working on organs for 40+ years, he decided that sending bitchy letters to the factory about the new organs or lousy techs were more dramatic when written with huge type. Maybe it's time I broke out my Dad's old typewriter and wrote some bitchy letters...... Jerry, you are no longer safe! Mark-- forget all of the good things I said about you. Hope your toilet clogs bigtime! By the Way -- For board members who don't know him, Jerry Welch is the former HAMMOND Organ Factory Service Manager. He was at the factory when the good stuff was still being built in Chicago. It is really a pleasure to have him as a member of our board. He also owns Organ Service Company and has many original HAMMOND parts still available. His address is in the FAQ. Al
