In message "Re: Overseas Hammond Factories", Marco writes: >Apart from Chicago, where more than one plant operated, Hammond organs were >built on licence in the following locations: > >Antwerp, BELGIUM (Hammond Organ Europe) >Montreal, CANADA (Northern Hammond / northern electric compani Ltd.) >Toronto, CANADA (Hammond Intl.) >Sondeborg, DENMARK (Brodr. Jorgensen A/S) >London, ENGLAND (Boosey & Hawkes, J.R.Lafleur & Son, Hammond Org.U.K.) >Hamburg, GERMANY (Deutsche Hammond Instrument) >Torino, ITALY (Microtecnica) >JAPAN (several divisions, no tonewhel organs) >Mexico City, MEXICO (Organos Hammond de Mexico) >SOUTH AFRICA (Boosey & Hawkes) >Lausanne, SWITZERLAND (Hammond S.A.) > I would like to add to that the Northern Electric plant in Belleville Ontario CANADA which together with the Montreal plant produced the "Northern Hammond" organs way back at the time of the model BC & BV. Northern Electric has now become Northern Telecom (NORTEL) which manufactures telephone and data communication equipment. The plant in Belleville is still going strong manufacturing PBXs and data network switches. I gather that the Belleville plant had leftover parts from its organ manufacturing years up to 4 years ago when it junked everything. I became aware after the fact. Business takes me to that plant every now and then since I work for NORTELs R&D subsidiary (BNR) designing products that are manufactured there. Every visit to the plant is punctuated by a spinning of the old faithfull model D that still sits in the cafeteria. Louis Couture coutur@bnr.ca Ottawa Ontario CANADA
