Those in the Bay Area might be interested to note that Jimmy Smith is playing
a Yoshi's in Oakland, January 4,5,6, & 7, two shows a nite (7:30 & 10:00).
 If you have never been there, Yoshi's is pretty small club and has great
sound.  I think tix are $18 or so.  I'll be there on the 6th.  Hope ya can
make it too!

I saw him last night; you're in for a big treat.  Go to the early show if you 
can.  They will let you stay for free for the late show if they have the 
space.  Also, I sat directly in front of the organ, one foot away.  The 
guitar rig was too loud in that spot, so you might want to get further back, 
dead center.  Some thought that by sitting upstairs you would be able to see 
Jimmy's hands; I couldn't tell from my vantage point, but I can tell you that 
there are no side seats from which to watch the drawbar and playing action.  
Check out Jimmy's drummer, by the way, he's very hot.  Jeffrey Arnold
