Re: Blaspheming the HAMMOND

In a message dated 96-01-30 17:56:05 EST, you write:

>The only electronic instruments that work
>with this style [classical/liturgical] are those which are designed to
emulate an acoustic pipe
>organ.
For what it's worth, my take:
1. A few, but not many, people have pipe organs in their homes. A Hammond is
a nice substitute. It's a real organ, not a sound-alike.
2. If you eliminate the "Hammond sound" that we all try to achieve, what the
organ does well is produce a churchy sound. So why not play church music on
it?
3. Pipe organ fans disdain the Hammond, refusing to call it an organ. If
somebody does, they may refer to it as "a Hammond organ [sic]". I've seen
it. Of course, I disagree, and consider this sheer snobbery.
4. Good music, classical, liturgical, pop, jazz, etc. is good music. The
instrument helps, but only to support the music. I'd rather hear a brilliant
organist play a Hammond organ that a mediocre organist play a pipe organ.
