[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index] Economics 101
I recently acquired a '57 B-3 and have just brought it up to "standard". I thought those looking for Hammonds would be interested in the economics after the purchase of one of these beasts. The console is in near mint condition. It was completely originally. the only thing changed in 39 yrs were the preamp tubes. The following are the procedures done to it since I acquired and the total cost "to-date". Replaced: Vibrato scanner with rebuilt (coated) unit, vibrato line box caps, 2 tubes in preamp, upper driver in 147 leslie, traded 147 amp for 122 amp w/new tubes, installed 122 tremolo box, new fast upper motor, installed Trek II reverb, replaced up-stop felt on both manuals, adjusted inoperable lower slow motor, new AC zip cord, labor (self & local tech @ $60.00/hr.) - total parts & labor $1367.00. Some parts were bought mail order some through local tech @ competitive prices. Some of the above were not absolutely necessary, such as reverb & amp trade($444.), but I wouldn't be satisified without them since I also have a '67 B-3/122 that is equally equipped. I was not surprised by the cost after the purchase because I already had 24 years experience with my '67 model and through a lot conversations with Al, my local tech and THE LIST. I just thought potential buyers should be equally prepared. Like my father used to say, "Be careful what you wish for - you just might get it"! Regards, Tim Hodges
