Wim -- the changes you made should do the trick!  Congrats on some excellent
detective and tech work.

The real advantage of adapting a B-3 preamp for an M3 is the complete
retirement of the original preamp / amplifier chassis, especially on early
4-wire speaker models. The secondary advantage, which is almost as important
as the first, is the balanced-line preamp output and overall closeness of
tone to the B-3.  

I personally believe this modification is one of the least-utilized sensible
modifications in the business as it offers many benefits. M-3's are
notoriously cheap. Most very early ones don't even work any longer due to
problems in the original amp, so they may be FREE. The weight and size
benefits are obvious. Tonally, except for foldback and a few other items, the
organs souds like a B-3 as the generator is essentially similar.  

Wim-- Maybe we can barter for an older AO-28 preamp if you want to push the
envelope!
