OK, this may well be the dweeb question of the week, but is there a substantial difference in the sound between a 122 and a 147 style amp? The very first Leslie I owned (w/and L100) was a 122. Loved the sound, hated the time delay for the slow>fast change. Sold that rig. My next rig was a B3 with a 251 that had the second channel tied to the main so there was a little straight tone comming out the reverb speakers. It wasn't a fair comparison as I had actually got my first B and was so excited about that that the model of Leslie wasn't a concern. All I knew was when I hit the speed switch it changed right away. Bonus!! I ended up getting my orignal 122 back and have since had it converted to a 147 style amp to work with the B in the studio and I use the 251 with a combo preamp and XB2 for stage. Should I have stayed or should I return to 122 style amps? Is there a way to get around the switching problem? As a side note, on the "122 turned 147" that I use in the studio, I had to replace the relay so I mounted an AMF plug in style on the top of the chassis. Worked well, but as with the original style relay was noisy for recording. So I took a short piece of Leslie cable and built an extension for it, wrapped the relay in foam and mounted it inside the cabinet. Quick changes, no click! But, have I lost some tone.... Thanks for any input. Larry Thompson Windsor Ontario
