Ian Jackson wrote about his XB-2: >With a registration of 888000008, and 147 on fast, I get unpleasant (to my >ears) beats between the notes if I hold down chords in the upper two >octaves or so. The beats are like a harsh modulation that clashes with the >Leslie fast modulation, but which can be cured by pushing the 5 1/3 drawbar >back in to 3 or less.> FIRST --- Mellow down the XB-2 with the treble control. This will reduce the FM synthesis on the high end, thereby getting a more realistic B-3 sound. The samples tend to beat against each other as most digital equipment tends to do above mid frequencies. I suggest also that you consider EQ'ing the XB-2 down above 6000 hz with an in-line EQ. Mark Longo has offered some great posts on the XB-2 setup procedures with Leslie's and the Pro-3. Possibly even more important --- Is the on-board Leslie simulator OFF via software control? This is a very common problem and one which is easily solved. Using an XB-2 with it's Leslie simulator ON through a real Leslie is barnyard economics. Make sure it's OFF. What version software is it? Look on the two large software chips closest to the back of the case(with the cover removed) for a software version number - 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 2.0. We have a boat load of XB-2's on tour with Leslie 122's, 147's, 302's, etc. and with proper set-up and alignment, they sound VERY close to a B-3. Al
