Should have said:

I have some custom built tube pres. The make all my mics sounds better 
(with digital recording) most, but certainly not all of the time.

Thanks for the correction.This is very true.I just happen to be using a
Tascam D-88.I was using the Mackie preamps on a 1604 MIXER wich are very good
preamps.But there is a great improvement in moving up to a dedicated tube
preamp when recording digitally,and having a modest mic collection,this
preamp really improves my sound.
