McGriff in Chicago

Well, it's the day after a Jimmy McGriff in Chicago, and once again my
beliefs were confirmed. Jimmy put on a decent first set. A bit on the hokey
side (easy by Lionnel Richee?) any the way the group performed was fantastic,
however, the tune selection was so/so. After an extended break (of which a
lot of people left due to the length of the break) they came out and smoked!
Gut bucket blues/and fantastic dynamics. The lesson I've learned is to set
the alarm clock for around midnight and make it down for the second set.
However, Jimmy had an xb3 with him again, that did the job as long as he did
not solo to long in the top octave. (I would recommend that you bring along
a can of wd-40 to minimize the squeek in this area.). You had no problem
hearing him, as he had only one 122 /122x ? which was miked up big time.
Anyway a great show overall despite the extended break, and the schmultzy
first set.
