RE: McGriff in Chicago

>>>Well, it's the day after a Jimmy McGriff in Chicago, and once again my
beliefs were confirmed. Jimmy put on a decent first set. A bit on the hokey
side (easy by Lionnel Richee?) any the way the group performed was fantastic,
however, the tune selection was so/so. After an extended break (of which a
lot of people left due to the length of the break) they came out and smoked!
Gut bucket blues/and fantastic dynamics. The lesson I've learned is to set
the alarm clock for around midnight and make it down for the second set.
However, Jimmy had an xb3 with him again, that did the job as long as he did
not solo to long in the top octave. (I would recommend that you bring along
a can of wd-40 to minimize the squeek in this area.). You had no problem
hearing him, as he had only one 122 /122x ? which was miked up big time.
Anyway a great show overall despite the extended break, and the schmultzy
first set. <<<

Thank you for your comments about Jimmy. I will be happy to let him know that
you were there. BTW.... I personally thank you for the comments with regards
to the 122's......GUESS WHAT! You weren't listening to a 122.... There were 2
BRAND NEW 771 Leslie Speakers.... So much for the I can tell the difference
between a REAL TUBE Leslie and a TRANSISTOR Lesile. (BIG GRIN).

Please don't take my comment as a personal attack or get pissed at me.... I
have gone around in circles with this and the XB-3 issue so much that I have
to laugh about it....

I find that if someone is playing an old B3, C3 or A-100 that has had a cap
job done to the organ and the Leslie amp has been overhauled it and the XB-3
sound very much the same....

I just did a blind test here in Philly with a group of gospel organ
players.... It was funny to watch the reaction when theypicked the old B3 out
as the XB-3...... BTW I played no games with the XB-3... We only adjusted
the tone control and the pedal key attack to soft. One guy who has told me
that an old B3 has more bass picked the XB-3 out as the B-3 , five out of the
6 times that the XB-3 was played.

BOY! Am I going to hear the S#$& now. Just for your info... I restore old
Hammonds as well as sell them....

Remember, all tonewheel organs are 25 plus years old. Most NEED a cap job....
Also, the rock player, the gospel player, jazz player, blues player, home
hobbyist theater ogan player and so on are all looking for a different
sound..... but the same sound.

Just wanted to piss more people off as I have a great propensity to do so....
Just ask Al Goff! (grin).

Hope you all enjoy this!
