>I have a line on a Porta B. Are there any opinions on its value -- both in >dollar terms, and also sound. How "portable" is it? How close in sound to >the "real thing"? The Porta-B is a portable L-100. It lacks scanner vibrato and has no foldback in the higher octaves but it's not too bad. I have an L-100, I like it, though I don't play it the same way as I play my B-3; I like to make use of some of the L's idiosyncracies. If you're looking for good B-3 sound you will probably be disappointed. If you want a sort-of portable Hammond to take to jam sessions and so forth you'll probably have fun with it. As for how much it's worth, I'll defer to the others here as I've yet to actually run across one myself. If I found an irresistable deal I'd probably buy it just to have it.
