There are MIDI kits available for the pedalboard.  AFAIK they leave the
original contacts intact.  Barbara Dennerlein uses such a scheme, playing a
string-bass sample from her pedals.  It sounds awesome and her pedal chops
are scary.  Check out her CD's... :-)
