Novochord (was: weird ...)



Perhaps everyone else on the list already knows this -- but
I'd sure appreciate an explanation of what a "Novochord" is ...

It receives a very brief note in my 1951 copy of "The Oxford
Companion to Music" under "Electric Musical Instruments", but
there's no further explanation.  It's treated separately from
the tonewheel Hammond (which gets almost a whole column, and
a diagram of the tone generator to boot, as well as a separ-
ate plate showing what looks like a BV :-) -- was the company
that made Novochords bought out by Hammond at some later date?
