need a couple of 6AU6's and a 5U4 for my M3. The only guy around here who
carries them wants $37 for the 5U4 and $20 for the 6AU6. I can't help but
feel there might be another option.

Stewart,
My all time favorite tube source are the Amateur Radio Hamfests.
These are flea-markets where a ton of new/old stuff is laid out for sale.
A list of these can be found at the Amateur Radio Relay League's Web site
(try a search on ARRL).
If you don't have any luck, let me know where you live, and I'll
try to get you a list. BTW, the main "season" for these swap meets
usually starts in March, but there are a few around even now.
