The X-66 had a 12-note tone wheel generator. mounted in the pedestal base,
that generated the top 12 notes needed.  All other frequencies were derived
by divider circuits mounted on fold-out panels.  I have a few of these
generators from parted out X-66s...they're fun to experiment with.  Actually,
the tone-wheel-generated sine wave converts into quite a cool square wave for
brass and string voices......
