Re: Need Some Help/some more suggestions

In a message dated 97-01-03 18:25:47 EST, you write:

I recommend the Automatic Transmission Fluid (per Sal Azz, not power
steering fluid). I used mineral oil, but don't think I'm getting as long a
delay**** in my reverb as I should. That's after filling it to precisely the
level on the instructions. It' ****less oil in short tube = longer reverb
time.

I thought the mineral oil was fairly viscous too. On the other hand, I never
liked having the short tube filled to "factory specs". No oil was a bit
much, but I didn't put much in after that.
On the other hand,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,the pickup for the reverb unit was a
"crystal pickup"; it used a susbstance called Rochelle Salt that can
deteriorate, (usually absorbing moisture slowly through the years tho it was
sealed),or fail.
If it should be to your taste, the oil unit can be replaced with a Type IV
dry unit, utilizing a small pre-amp that is simplicity itself to build, (uses
one transistor), and runs on cathode voltage from the main amp. This is a
modification that was recommended by the factory after the Rochelle Salts
were becoming either unobtainable or too expensive to supply. They even
supplied the pre-amp as a kit.
If you want a schematic and instructions, i.e. a copy of the Hammond
Technical Bulletin, let me know, and I'll send it to you by fax or snail
amil.
