Your "strange modification" sounds like a combination percussion-voicing
accessory that was available in the late sixties.  It used the Hammond
percussion (or created its own) to produce "chimes, " bells," etc,. with
drawbar harmonics.  Build quality was nowhere like that of old Hammonds and I
suspect that the device is not worth repairing.  However, the BCV had no
percussion and you will need to add a Trek unit or similar if you get rid of
your "strange modification."
