Don't just clean the tube sockets, but also take a piece of emery paper or
really fine sand paper and clean the tube's pins also.  And it doesn't hurt
to drop the preamp chassis and use a jewler's screwdriver to press together
the small tabs on the tube sockets which grip the tube's pins.  You can't do
it on all the sockets--only the brown phenolic ones, but it really helps cure
noisey sockets.
